Week 8, Term 4

This week we were reminding ourselves all about the letter 'f'. We made some paper frogs and decided to have a race for fun. We tried flapping a magazine to get them hopping....some were more successful than others!

Over the last week we have been looking at geometry during maths time. We went on a little walk about the school to see what shapes we could find. Shapes are absolutely everywhere!

Well as the year draws to a close I think we have many things to pat ourselves on the back about! What a wonderful year we have had in Renwick 3. It has been my absolute pleasure to watch the children grow and develop in so many ways.
We have had 4 exceptional new entrant children start this term. I have been so impressed in the way they have quickly settled into school life. At the same time I feel extremely proud of the way in which the ‘oldies’ have assisted and supported them to adjust.
Our reading programme has finished for the year but the children will be bringing home a Christmas poem for reading each night. Therefore it is important they return their poetry book each day. I encourage you to maintain your child’s reading over the summer break. Keep it fun and easy with lots of praise. If you are not already a member of the town library now is the time to join.
Over the next week I will be sending home books and art work.
Next week we will be swimming on Monday, Tuesday and Friday.

Week 7, Term 4

This week we had some fun dressing up for Book Character Day. We had been learning about narrative stories and writing so we dressed up as our favourite character.

Fun times at Discovery Time!

We are having some great fun during Discovery Time. We have been focusing on developing our social skills to ensure everyone is feeling included into games. Last Friday Neroli was soooo pleased and proud of us because throughout the entire session everyone played cooperatively and happily together!

Customize a slideshow Next week.... This will be the last week of guided reading sessions. Our sound is 'f'. Our tricky words will be please/school or am/look. During maths we are looking at shape. Weather permitting we will be swimming on Monday for sure! Please keep your eye on the whiteboard for other swimming days. Usually at the end of the year we have a Kowhai Big Day Out. However this year we are going to have a Big Day In! We have some very special treats in store. We have planned this for Monday 16th December. More details will follow. Have a happy and safe week!

Week 4, Term 4

This week we were off to the moon! I'm sure you must have heard us countdown to blast off!

Parihaka Picnic Tea
On Tuesday evening the weather held out for us to gather to remember and talk about the events of Parihaka. There was some fabulous art work on display, speeches, drama and musical performances. I felt extremely proud of the children showcasing their knowledge and skills.

Week 3, Term 4

This week we had some very special visitors to Renwick 3. We really enjoyed these soft fluffy balls of fun coming to entertain us!

Make your own free picture slideshow On Friday afternoon as we were busy doing our work we noticed it had turned cold and had started to rain. Neroli shut the door. All of a sudden the rain sounded quite heavy. We looked out the window to see hail falling onto the deck and paths! Next week... Our sounds will be ow/c. Our tricky words will be now/nice. During maths we will continue to work with numbers with and within 5/10. Please remember that Calendar Art orders are due back by the 8th of November. On Tuesday evening at 5.30pm we are having a family picnic tea for Parihaka. There will be lots of fabulous entertainment. It would be great to see you there. Have a happy and safe week!

Week 2, Term 4

This week during Discovery Time we were working on our school wide social skill of including others. We all had a wonderful time. During reflection time everyone said they had felt included and part of the work and play.

Week 1, Term 4

Well what a busy start to Term 4! We worked hard all week in preparation for the annual Nelson Masked Parade. We looked fabulous in our masks and costumes.
A big thank you to all the parents that helped us put it all together.
Neroli was so very proud of us on the night. We waited very patiently in the car park until it was our turn to start walking. We sang and danced our way through the streets of Nelson.

On Wednesday we had a cricket coaching skills session with Daniel. We played some games hitting and running after the ball. It was quite tricky and some of us had butterflies in our tummies but in true Renwick 3 style we just had a go. We actually really enjoyed ourselves having lots of laughs and giggles!

During maths we will be looking at patterns with and within 5 or 10.
Thank you for all the boxes and items donated for Discovery Time. Keep them coming as the children are 'eating' them up. I am sure you can tell by your child's enthusiasm that Discovery Time on Friday is going extremely well. For me it is incredibly rewarding to observe the children's creativity, perseverance and social skills developing as they take direct their own learning. The problem solving and negotiation that takes place is quite something!
As the weather is heating up please help your child to remember their sunhat. Wide brimmed hats must be worn in Term 4. A no hat no play rule is in place.

Week 9, Term 3

We were recently treated to a Highland dancing show by 4 very talented and confident young ladies!

We have been taking a keen interest in the America Cup racing this week....we are waiting very patiently!!!

Week 6, Term 3

This week we had a teeny tiny class! We have had up to ten children away mostly with chickenpox. We hope to have more of our friends here next week.

Week 5, Term 3

After lunch we come in for quiet reading (quiet...ish!). Last week Neroli caught lots of us doing the right thing.

Simple Machines

We have been having some fun learning about Simple Machines this week. We looked at a wheelbarrow and how it consists of a wheel and axle, inclined plane and acts as a lever to lift a load. We found out we could lift Neroli in a wheelbarrow! We explored the fulcrum on a plank of wood. We noticed that when the fulcrum was placed closer to the load it was easier to lift up. We could actually lift our friends using just one hand!

Another digital slideshow by Smilebox Masked Parade The Masked Parade is fast approaching and Kowhai Syndicate are underway in getting our masks made. Thank you to all those who have offered to help. The Masked Parade is Friday 18th October. More information regarding costumes, times and meeting points for the night will come home closer to the time. In Renwick 3 at the moment we have chicken pox and head lice so please keep an eye out for these. Next week...  We will be looking at short vowels. Our tricky words will be only and very. Week 4 Term 3

As part of our 3-D art this term we decided to use collage to create a 'Healthy Hamburger'.

During maths this week some of us were learning our numbers all the way up to 100! When we had finished our tasks we thought it would be fun to make our own Snakes and Ladders using the 100's boards.

This week during Discovery Time we enjoyed constructing and making creations out of recycled items. Our focus for the session was to use our creative thinking. We explored different ways of doing things without getting upset. We all couldn't use the same box so we had to adapt our ideas. Some of us even decided to use the construction resources for an impromptu percussion performance! We made factories, supermarkets (with hand crafted money!) and cars. Throughout the session we were inclusive of each other, asked nicely to join in games and gave lots of positive compliments to our friends.

Week 3, Term3

On Thursday we had a special treat in the hall with a performance from our Kapa Haka group. They travelled to Blenheim on Friday to compete in a competition. We felt very proud and impressed with their fantastic display of courage and skill.

Week 2, Term 3

This week we had some very special visitors come to Renwick 3. They were government officals from South East Asia here in Nelson doing an english course at NMIT. They taught us how to say 'hello' in their language and we sang and dance for them. We showed them how clever we are at writing too!

Week 1, Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3!

This week we started off with a hiss and a roar! On Thursday we went to the Museum for the Hairy McClary Exhibition. We had a wonderful time looking at the wonderful artwork and books. Nikki was dressed as Bottomly Potts all covered in spots! We laughed and laughed.

On Friday we started our Discovery Time. Our key focus was learning how to ask to join in with a group. We needed to use our manners and listen to and respect all members of the group. We had a range of activities to explore. We particularly enjoyed the dress ups and making butter!
